Bespoke Web Design or Package Web Design? That, is the question.
I have to be a little bit honest here…we’ve lost a few potential clients recently.
I’ve had numerous conversations with various people and businesses regarding what they are looking for in terms of a website, and the quantity that want something “cheap” is staggering. So whilst I say we’ve lost a few potential clients recently, it’s more been that they are asking for something that we just don’t want to give them.
Package website for £600 and then £10/20/30 a month? Easy. I mean really easy. Will it be SEO safe? Will it be at all unique? Exciting to look at? Much thought put into the actual user experience and what it feels like to use?
Bespoke web design is a very specific thing – I do not begin to insinuate that it is appropriate for all scenarios, people and businesses. Hence why I’ve turned a few jobs (5, actually) away in the past 6 weeks simply on the basis that we really aren’t the right company for what the situation genuinely needed. I mean that’s technically turning down £3000 in lump development fees and who knows how much future business, but would it have been the right thing to do to accept? Categorically not. We can all log on to themeforest.net and purchase a WordPress theme and make the first step towards internet freedom, but so many things get missed, and ultimately, that kind of thing is what I strive to avoid in our output – missing things are mistakes. Sure, no-one can be mistake free, but when the job is “done” it should definitely be done. At least for a couple of years anyway.
We build websites with emotion, power and technical prowess. When it comes to development projects, be it integrating into a CRM or adding an inventory management module to the current content management system, or even filtering outgoing email for data theft, our solutions are entirely bespoke for the job at hand. Yes, that does mean they are probably more expensive. But they work better for you and your business. Every investment into a website or technological feature being added in should be viewed in terms of ROI – if the project is successful and more effective to start with, the value flows in so much quicker.
